[Table To-gather] The Anonymous Many and Their Spotlighted One
Under the starry sky, look up at those twinkling stars—the guiding stars of our ideals.
In the crowd, fans quietly raise their light sticks, illuminating the venue with a sea of pink. In that moment, the fans cease to be 'I' and become 'we'. Together, they fix their collective gaze from the darkened seats upon the dazzling star shining brightly on stage.
Is idol worship necessarily blind? Is the unity among fans taken for granted? A researcher attempts to treat their fandom as an academic study; a fan claiming to escape the deep pit of idol worship, through one interview and several monologues, invites the audience to step into the mysterious realm of fandom.
From academic theories to personal autobiography, idol group enthusiast Loui Yuen oscillates between the identities of fan and observer, bringing anthropological fieldwork to the theatre. Through a lecture performance, she transforms the intricate emotions between reason and love into a quest for identity and ideals.
