[Table To-gather] roots hanging
Adapted from Hong Kong writer Wong Yi's short story "Deep Roots," “roots hanging” employs the love story of "you" and two chopped-down strangler figs on Bonham Road as an entry point to explore the subtle relationship between trees and people, as well as the entangled contradictions between collective and personal memories.
A multi-phase creative project written and directed by Chan Ting-hin, a member of the "Table To-gather" collective, “roots hanging” retains the second-person narrative from the original short story, transforming all subjective judgments, grievances, and affections into a solo narrative with multiple roles.
The performance, integrated with physical movement, sound, and installations, unravels the contradictions of memories and contemplates the interactions between landscapes, spaces, memories, and emotions.
