Play-Reading Marathon 2023: X
A Cantonese play-reading of Alistair McDowall’s haunting exploration of isolation and the disintegration of reality set on a remote research base on Pluto.
The narrative unfolds as the crew, cut off from Earth, grapples with unexplained occurrences and a mysterious signal that disrupts their understanding of time and space. As they struggle to maintain sanity and decipher their situation, the absence of communication from Earth and the presence of a cryptic letter 'X' lead them into a spiraling descent into paranoia and horror. McDowall's work masterfully combines elements of psychological thriller and science fiction to probe deep questions about memory, existence, and the essence of human experience.
