Play-Reading Marathon 2023: Midnight Movie

A Cantonese play-reading of Eve Leigh’s award-winning theatrical script. The playwright breaks through traditional formal constraints by using a text that simulates a network for an online séance, crafting a stream-of-consciousness inner drama performed on a half-sleeping bed at dawn.

“Midnight Movie” was selected by Stückemarkt 2021 at the Theatertreffen, Berlin, where judges described the script as drawing on the playwright's own long-term illness as a creative blueprint. It portrays a sleepless night in the life of a young woman, skillfully interweaving personal experiences with various online rumours.
