25&ON — Grounded in Resonance Play-reading Showcase: Blasted

In 2012, Cattle Depot Theatre was dramatically shaken by the introduction of Sarah Kane's "Blasted", a leading work from the British new writing movement. Kane's work, known for its explosive dramatic tension, opened a new chapter in the exploration of new writing, establishing a style that confronts harsh realities.

The play, set in a luxury hotel room amidst an unexpected war, follows a pair of former lovers, transitioning from realistic to surreal scenarios that immerse the characters in extreme violence and gore. Taking up the challenge of this explosive narrative, director Li Chi-tat collaborates with the actors to present a 2023 depiction of civilisation's ruins in the format of a play-reading.
