Waking Dreams in 1984 — Online Broadcast & Director’s cut
Award-Winning Original Work Returns
A brand new cast, once again depicting the indescribable shape of Hong Kong
“Waking Dreams in 1984” was originally written in the 1980s during widespread debate surrounding Hong Kong's future. Chan Ping-chiu revisits his past writing and subtly puts it in dialogue with the post-umbrella movement period, offering an earnest reflection on the previous generation of activists and intellectuals who found themselves entrapped within their own lucid dreams, confined to a space of "borrowed time, borrowed space".
Although scheduled for a revival with a new cast in December 2020 and January 2021, the production was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. Determined to share the creative achievements of the past three months, On & On ultimately presented three live streamed performances.
