The City
A Cantonese staging of Martin Crimp’s dark, enigmatic play that delves into the complexities of modern urban life and its impact on personal relationships.
Set in a seemingly ordinary city, the narrative follows the lives of three main characters: Chris, a corporate worker; his wife, Clair, a translator struggling to find her voice; and a mysterious neighbour Jenny who tells unsettling stories from war-torn lands. As their stories intertwine, the boundary between reality and fantasy blurs, revealing deep-seated anxieties and hidden traumas. The play examines themes of alienation, ambition, and the elusive nature of truth, all set against the backdrop of a sterile, impersonal cityscape that both isolates and connects its inhabitants.
