Dramas of Princesses: Death & the Maiden I-V
The first adaptation and public performance in the Chinese-speaking theatre world of Elfriede Jelinek’s "Death and the Maiden".
Filled with fantasy, psychological descriptions, and inner monologues, the play deviates from traditional dramatic plot conflicts. The imagery is complex, with only simple stage directions and scenes, accompanied by long dialogues. The play is divided into five chapters: "Snow White", "Sleeping Beauty", "Rosamunde", "Jackie", and "The Wall", with an additional "epilogue" titled "The Underground Princess". Through these six princesses, the author directly addresses serious philosophical propositions: existence, truth, lies, thought, reason, eternity, beauty, death, as well as sex and love.
This adaptation will focus on "Snow White" and "Sleeping Beauty".
