No Significant Abnormality Detected

Following "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat”, Chan Ping-chiu presents another play themed around the concepts of “normal” and “abnormal”. The story is inspired by the classic works of contemporary French philosopher Michel Foucault, "Madness and Civilization", and the short story "Sleep" by Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami.

In the play, a sleepless and vomiting lady boards the medieval mythical “Ship of Fools”, travelling through the crevices of the night towards a desolate, bizarre realm. Life's dreams have never been so vivid, as facets of the self, never met, press against the dark side of the heart. Starting with a health check report, dreams, poetry, and surreal life fragments shuttle between the modern and the medieval, weaving the bizarre tale of an insomniac woman and a little girl on the ship of fools.
